Q: Where are you based?

A: We’re based in Hollywood, CA, with staff spread throughout Los Angeles and Dallas.  As our movement grows, we’ll be adding meetups and groups in other areas.  Would you like to sponsor A Gay Tale in your area?  Shoot us an email!

Q: How can I join?

A: It’s super simple!  You can become a Booster, supporting our efforts, or a Storyteller, who can write stories for A Gay Tale.  For more information, please click one of the links below.

Q: How did you get started?

A: We came together as a group of LGBTQ individuals and allies who wanted to have a venue to share our stories.  With blogs declining in influence and social media on the rise, we couldn’t really find a home for what we thought was necessary – so we decided to build one.  Among our demanding schedules, it’s been a work in progress, but we’re so happy to be here.

Our individual staff members will be introducing themselves through their stories which will also be linked through this page.  Stay tuned!

Q: Does it cost anything to join?

A: Nope!  Our collective is non-profit.  Any donations received will be re-invested into growing the collective with more outreach, better tools, and a more robust sharing platform.

Q: I have older friends/relatives who’d like to help out, how can they get involved?

A: That’s awesome!  First and most importantly – reading and sharing stories on social media helps our storytellers receive positive feedback – always a good thing!

We have events and donation drives planned for Summer and Fall 2018, as well as a merch line coming very soon – all opportunities to be involved!  More information will be available mid-July 2018.

Q: How does sharing my story help people?

A: The human experience is not all that different.  We grow, we learn, we love, we die.  But in the LGBTQ community, there’s an aspect of feeling isolated from others.  We may not experience our first kiss for years.  Our experience of love might evoke feelings of shame.  Our goals may not include marriage or children.  Our family unit may be fractured.

Therefore, it’s up for members of our community to share our own stories – our stories of love, of heartbreak, of growth, of loss, of new beginnings and life itself.  Members of our global community may be in a repressive country, in a difficult family, or completely separated from their surroundings.  No matter where around the world you reside, we want each story to be a resource, an asset, a real experience that makes you feel less alone.

Each story is an opportunity for someone to identify with how you felt and what you experienced.  It could be a cautionary tale, a “yeah, that happened to me too!” realization, or an identification of the present.

Importantly – it’s real.  A real experience – that’s part of the human experience.

Q: What else are you doing besides sharing stories?

A: Storytelling is just the beginning.  We’re working on creating a media network, one not focused on product, but on people.   We want to tell the stories you want to hear.  Through video, podcasts, images, and articles, we’d like to present an honest view of the LGBTQ community, and truly highlight those who have been under the radar in making the world a safer and better place for LGBTQ individuals.  We also want to use mixed media to share our stories in new and exciting ways.

Q: I can’t write, how else can I help?

A: We’re looking for all members of the community interested in making a difference.  Currently, our door’s open for boosters, coders, editors, influencers, and creative talent.  Shoot us an email with a resume and we’d love to see if you’re a good fit for the team!
